Book hemming early. A wedding vest needs no hemming, but the trousers underneath it do, and our stores run busiest in May and June.

Measure Your Chest and Read the Vest Size Chart
One measurement sizes a vest. Wrap a soft tape around the fullest part of your chest, just under the arms and level across the shoulder blades, snug but not tight. That number in inches is your size.
Our size guide runs Small (35 to 37) through 4X (53 to 55), so the chart covers a wider range than most vest sizing. Two rules once you have the number:
- Between sizes? Size up. A vest can be taken in; it cannot be let out.
- The vest hem should cover your waistband and stop just below it, not at your hip.
Most vests carry an adjustable back strap, which fine-tunes the waist after you have chosen your chest size.

Yes. Waistcoat is the British menswear term, and vest is the Canadian and American one, and both describe the sleeveless garment worn over a dress shirt and under a suit jacket. You will see waistcoat used more often for formal three-piece and morning dress.
Can you wear a suit vest without a jacket?
Yes, and it is now common in business casual and smart-casual offices. Keep the fit close, since there is no jacket covering the sides. Pair it with dress trousers or chinos and skip the tie for a more relaxed read.
Should you button the bottom button on a vest?
No. Leave the bottom button undone. The tradition dates to Edward VII, but the practical reason survives: an open bottom button lets the vest sit flat when you sit down, and stops the fabric pulling across the waistband.
